Common Air Conditioning Malfunctions

As the temperature rises on the outside, you want the temperature to drop on the inside. One of the worse things that can happen on a sweltering summer day is a malfunctioning AC unit, causing you and your family discomfort. Below are just a few issues that could possibly cause your AC unit to malfunction in the hot summer.

These problems might include:

  • Dirty furnace filters and blocked coils can result in your cooling system having difficulties circulating the air. This can cause your energy bill to skyrocket, frozen evaporator coils and moisture buildup within the interior of the building.

This can be avoided by replacing or cleaning the filters frequently and taking the time to be certain no debris is obstructing the pathways within the coils.

  • If left unchecked the electrical system can suffer from corrosion and wear out. Constantly using the air conditioning without having it service from time to time can leave it vulnerable to connections becoming frayed without detection.

When it comes to dealing with situations related to electricity, it would be better for the home or business owner to let the experts handle it. Taking this step will prevent the potential in which an unskilled person risk being electrocuted.

  • Sometimes, the sensors for the temperature control can become defective and show the incorrect numbers for how many degrees is in the building.

The sensing elements are usually out of place when this happens, but a skilled air conditioning technician can put the device back into alignment.

  • If your cooling unit is blowing hot air, although you have the temperature set to cold, you might need to check out your refrigerant. This liquid removes the heat from the interior of the building to the exterior.

If there is a leak and enough refrigerant is not present, a reputable air conditioning business will be able to send one of their workers to repair the leak. They should also be able to replenish the AC systems with the proper amount of liquid according to the manufacturer’s directions.

In general, it would be a good idea for people to have a professional HVAC company to provide detailed maintenance on their systems, at least once a year. Well-trained technicians will be able to prevent the air conditioners from experiencing common malfunctions.
